10-Day Itinerary

Sofia to the Rhodopes, Pirin and Rila

Day 1

Arrival in Sofia

Arrive in Bulgaria's capital and begin the journey with a traditional Bulgarian dinner.

Day 2

Sofia to the Rhodope Mountains

Collect the 4WD vehicles, explore historic Plovdiv and visit Bachkovo Monastery before heading deep into the Rhodope Mountains towards Pamporovo.

Day 3

Smolyan, Shiroka Laka & Devin

Travel through the heart of the Rhodopes, visit Shiroka Laka and meet a traditional instrument maker before continuing along mountain tracks to the spa town of Devin.

Day 4

Trigrad Gorge & Devil's Throat

Walk through dramatic canyon scenery before exploring Trigrad Gorge, the Devil's Throat Cave and Yagodina Canyon.

Day 5

Dospat Lake to Bansko

Travel around Dospat Lake and through mountain communities before following the Mesta River towards Bansko.

Day 6

Around the Pirin Mountains

Head to Dobrinishte and take the chairlift towards Lake Bezbog for wide mountain views. Later, hike around an alpine lake near Vihren Hut, with the chance to relax in local hot springs.

Day 7

Pirin Ridge & Melnik

Cross the Pirin Ridge towards Gotse Delchev, explore the abandoned village of Pirin on foot and continue along old forest roads to Melnik, Bulgaria's smallest city and a centre of local wine production.

Day 8

Bistritsa Valley & Thermal Springs

Follow a scenic off-road route into the Bistritsa Valley, with views towards northern Greece, before visiting local sites and relaxing in mineral thermal springs near Sandanski.

Day 9

Struma River Rafting & Rila Monastery

Take on a rafting experience on the Struma River before visiting the famous Rila Monastery. Return to Sofia, hand back the 4WD vehicles and enjoy a final evening in the capital.

Day 10

Departure

Transfer to the airport after breakfast, bringing the adventure through Bulgaria's mountains, villages and valleys to a close.
