Kyrgyzstan is a country defined by mountains. Around 90% of the country lies above 1,500 metres, creating a landscape of glaciers, alpine lakes, grasslands and remote high-altitude valleys.
This journey combines serious 4WD adventure with an immersion in Kyrgyzstan's revived nomadic culture, from traditional horse games and family homestays to nights in yurts beside remote lakes.
Along the way you'll cross dramatic mountain passes, travel through the Tien Shan, explore Issyk Kul and Son-Kul, and reach Kelsuu Lake high in the mountains.

12-Day Itinerary
Bishkek through the Tien Shan
Day 1
Arrival in Bishkek
Arrive in Kyrgyzstan's capital, meet the expedition team and explore Bishkek before a welcome dinner.
Day 2
Bishkek to Chon Kemin
Collect the 4WD vehicles and head towards Chon Kemin, travelling near the Kazakhstan border before experiencing the traditional horse game of Ylak Tartysh.
Day 3
Son-Kul Lake
Travel through Boom Gorge and over the 33 Parrots Pass to beautiful Son-Kul, with time to walk beside the lake before spending the night in traditional yurts.
Day 4
Tash Rabat
Cross the Moldo Ashuu and Melsis passes towards the ancient Tash Rabat caravanserai, with another night in traditional yurts.
Day 5
Kelsuu Lake
Journey towards the remote Kelsuu Lake beneath the snow-capped Aksai Range and take to its turquoise waters by Zodiac boat.
Day 6
Kelsuu to Naryn
Leave Kelsuu behind and head towards Naryn, crossing rivers, glaciers and striking geological landscapes along the way.
Day 7
Through the Tien Shan to Issyk Kul
Travel deeper into the Tien Shan Mountains, crossing remote valleys and high passes before reaching the shores of Lake Issyk Kul.
Day 8
Barskoon, Jety Ogyz & Karakol
Explore the Barskoon and Jety Ogyz gorges, travelling through rivers, valleys and mountain landscapes before arriving in Karakol.
Day 9
Altyn Arashan
Transfer into rugged Russian-style off-road vehicles for the journey to Altyn Arashan, with alpine scenery, a short hike and time to relax in natural hot springs.
Day 10
Cholpon Ata & Lake Issyk Kul
Continue around Lake Issyk Kul, stopping at Semenovska and Grigorevska gorges before enjoying a boat ride and time on the lake.
Day 11
Chu River & Return to Bishkek
Finish the adventure with a rafting experience on the Chu River before returning to Bishkek, handing back the 4WD vehicles and gathering for a farewell dinner.
Day 12
Departure
Transfer to the airport for your journey home, taking with you the memories of one of Central Asia's most remarkable landscapes and cultures.
